Speeding Tickets

Did you know over forty-one million speeding tickets are issued each year, that is 100,000 each day. The average cost of a speeding is $150 not to mention the rise in insurance the driver is subject to. The annual increase in expenses due to a speeding ticket including the ticket itself and the hiked up insurance come to an average of an additional $900 a year out of your pocket. You’re probably thinking, yeah we know there are increased costs; I only care about how to decrease or lower these. There isn’t an end all answer except to stop speeding which in an ideal world is exactly what you’d do. Since life in general is not ideal I have a suggestion that will make you more speed conscious and will help you refrain from speeding; a radar detector.

Most radar detectors cost under $160, right about the same cost of the average speeding ticket. The unit only has to keep you from speeding once to earn its weight and more once you include the rise in insurance. These units aren’t fail proof and therefore shouldn’t be used to speed. I’ve noticed my radar detector keeps me very speed conscious; it’s a constant reminder and helps keep me from speeding when I don’t want to be. Regarding price you can actually get a lower end Whistler radar detector for well under $100 that will do a fine job of keeping you speed conscious in most situations. The middle of the road Cobra units generally priced between $100 and $200 will offer quite a lot of awareness with 360 degrees of protection. If you are looking for a really good unit you’ll want to go with a Cobra XRS-9960G or Cobra XRS-10G, Valentine One, or the Escort 9500IX.
